4 Ways to Feel More Satisfied In Life

Are you wanting to feel more satisfied in life? Have you ever had that nagging feeling that there is something missing, or worse, something is present that’s causing this painful void?  Being satisfied with your life isn’t always an easy task. We’ve all experienced this at one point or another.

I believe we learn from our environment. I had a father (God love him) who never seemed satisfied with my achievements. It never seemed to be good enough no matter what I tried – education, sports, weight, career choices. Over time, his attitude became deeply ingrained in my mind. I never measured up. I believe this conditioning was a source of my depression and anxiety.

My father had good intentions, but his delivery was off.

At some point, I had to overcome this challenge.

Feel More Satisfied In Life: 4 Go-To Ways

1.  Acknowledge your pain and vow to reclaim control of your life

  • Don’t allow your past to become who you are. If necessary, distance yourself from anyone or anything contributing to these feelings. Of course, communicate and try working things out first.
  • Reach out to a friend or seek the help of a professional if necessary. They can help you arrive at conclusions and determine what it is you truly want. My poor therapist is on retainer.
  • Identify what needs to be done in the short term in order to attain consistent long-term results.

  2. Take care of your physical health (Stop rolling your eyes. Read on.)

  • Don’t forget the mind body connection. If you are in poor physical shape, it can and will contribute to depression. The opposite holds true: If you are depressed, it can affect you physically. So, break the cycle. Otherwise, the void can intensify.
  • Eat healthily and exercise. I didn’t learn this lesson until I finished a two-pound block of Swiss cheese in one sitting. Nourish your body and in turn you will nourish your mind – making you mentally and physically stronger to determine and obtain satisfaction in life.

3. Be Grateful for what you do have

  • One of the best ways to feel more satisfied with your life is to practice gratefulness for all the amazing things you have already. If you spend most of your time wanting for the things you don't have or being jealous of others for the things they do have, it will intensify your unhappiness. Stop comparing yourself to others. You don’t know what they are experiencing. They can appear to have everything the world could possibly offer and still feel there is a void in their lives.  To efficiently practice gratefulness, you should make a daily list. I’m grateful that I no longer have to wear stretchy pants! It pays to not eat two pounds of cheese. Take some time to brainstorm all of the accomplishments, skills, people, and things that you have in your life. Then, when you find a moment where you feel down, look back at this list and remind yourself how good you have it.

4. Release Stress

  • You probably already realize that stress is a major hindrance to feeling satisfied with your life. This is why you should do everything in your power to lower your stress. Stress can make you feel ill. Chronic stress can kill you. Start each morning with some relaxing yoga or mindful meditation.
  • Consider hypnotherapy. Melissa can certainly help you with this! Make sure you're allowing yourself enough time for self-care each day. Ensure that you engage regularly in practices that help you to release stress
  • Don’t underestimate the power of deep breathing.

To start to feel more satisfied in life is no easy task, and it will take you some time to master this new approach. If you commit to following these suggestions, you may find that satisfaction with your life is right around the corner and well within your reach. Here’s to no stretchy pants.  ~Ted
