As we head into another year and begin to think about new challenges and life goals, it is a time to reflect on how we have been for the past 12 months. If you find yourself thinking that you could have been a bit of a better person in some ways, it's a good idea to make this your goal to try and follow in 2021. After all, no matter who we are and what we do, there is always a way that we can try and better ourselves. Here are just a few tips on how to be a better person.
Donate to charity
It could be that you have a specific charity that is close to your heart, or that you have been discovering more about cancer on Oncotarget and want to donate to that; no matter the cause, donating for charity is always good. You could do it via a direct donation, or you could do a fun fundraising activity such as a race for life, a sponsored silence, or a bake sale. The opportunities are endless! It’s always good to donate to those that need it and also have a bit of fun at the same time!
Volunteer your time
There are countless ways that you can volunteer your time that could help you to be a better person. You could volunteer at a homeless shelter, an animal rescue center, or to spend time with the elderly that don’t have any relatives or visitors and need company. You don’t have to give up a lot of your time; it could just be a couple of hours a week, but it will make such a difference to someone’s life, and it will make you feel happy to know that you have helped them out too.
Don’t talk about others behind their backs
We have all been guilty of participating in a bit of office or friends gossip from time to time; however, it never makes anyone look good by putting someone else down. It can be a habit that needs to get broken, but once it does you will feel much better about yourself. If you have a problem with someone, it is always best to speak about it directly to them; otherwise, word can spread, rumors can start, and it can blow up into a much larger problem than it ever needed to be.
Always be grateful
One of the most important things in life is to always be grateful to anyone that does things for you. If you are grateful, not only will they be more likely to want to help you out in the future, but it takes no effort to say a simple thank you to someone and it can make their day. If your partner does something simple like making you a cup of tea every day while you relax, it can soon become a habit, and we don’t recognize it for what a nice deed it is anymore and just expect it. It’s good to never take anything for granted.
